Fall foliage continues to put on a beautiful show in the St. Louis area. A brief visit to Hazlet Cottages on Carlyle Lake resulted in some soothing autumn vibes. It’s a short hour-long drive across the river into Illinois and provides a great, solitary weekend getaway from time to time.
In the fall of 2020, six months into the pandemic and three months before the world began to open back up, I made my first two trips to Carlyle Lake. During the second, Mom and Dad drove down and we spent some quality outdoor time chatting on the shore of the lake. It was the first time I’d seen them in person since the pandemic began and the last time I’d see Dad in person ever. Thus, the spot will always hold bittersweet memories for me. It’s beautiful nonetheless. I love autumn. 🌳🍂🍁
