The intersection of South Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue in downtown Iowa City is one of my favorite spots. The stretch of South Dubuque Street between Iowa Avenue and East Washington Street is one of my favorite city blocks. It may not seem that special to some. To me though, it’s heaven (get the Field of Dreams reference?). Pretty soon, I’ll call it home again. 😁
I was a different person while a student at the University of Iowa. I broke out of my shy and reserved high school shell. I made the best group of friends on the 5th and 6th floors of Reinow Hall. With improved confidence, I joined a professional business fraternity and took on the role of president. There, I was befriended by the cool guys. Kevin, Joe, Dave, Jay, John, Sam, Andy, Jeff, Tony, and Pat, among many others, really liked me. All the friends I made in AKPsi are the greatest. They populate some of my fondest college memories.
I recently decided to finally make the move back to Iowa City. I’ve been considering it for years. I knew it’d never happen until I set a date, so I chose September 1, 2024. The countdown to my final year as a resident of St. Louis began last Friday. I’m really looking forward to living in Iowa City again, especially because I’ll be much closer to family and to the friends I made there.
The thought of leaving St. Louis saddens me though. When I leave here next September, I’ll have been a St. Louisan for 27 years, well over half my life. Fortunately, it’s a quick, easy four-hour drive between Iowa City and St. Louis. I’ll miss instant access to all its treasures though, especially those treasures that exist in the form of lifelong friends I made here. Hopefully those friends can sometimes make the drive north to Iowa that I made countless times over the last 26 years. I promise to make the drive south to St. Louis as often as I can. 😊
Kent you are such a wonderful young man, the article you posted about Janet is so heartfelt and so greatly appreciated , thanks so much. Dick
